What we collect, what we don't, and where your worlds actually live.

Last updated 2026-07-20

Here's what we collect, what we don't, and where your stuff actually lives — no dense legalese.

Your worlds stay on your machine

Cairn is single-player, and every world you build is saved locally on your own computer. We never see it, never upload it, and never touch it — unless you specifically choose otherwise (see Cabins below).

What we store, and only when you ask us to

If you create an account or subscribe to Cairn Cabins for server-side world backups, we store the minimum needed to run that service:

  • Your email address, so you can sign in and we can reach you about your account.
  • The world backups you send us, held so you can restore them later. They're yours; you can delete them anytime.

If you never make an account, we hold none of this.

Gameplay analytics (you can opt out)

By default, Cairn sends anonymous gameplay analytics — things like crash reports and rough usage patterns — so we can fix bugs and improve the game. It isn't tied to your identity, and you can switch it off in the game's settings whenever you like.

The streaming state file stays local

The state.json file that powers the OBS overlay is written to your computer, for your streaming tools to read. It never gets sent to us. Your overlay is your business.

What we never do

  • We do not sell your data. Not to advertisers, not to anyone.
  • We don't share your worlds or email with third parties beyond the plumbing needed to run Cabins.
  • We don't track you across the web.

Want your account and backups deleted? Email hello@cairn.example and we'll take care of it.
